ATTORNEY GENERAL CAUGHT CAMPING!
Hundreds of Boy Scouts expect to discover Attorney General Mark Shurtleff camping on Salt Lake's East Bench this Friday hunting for canned goods. "I'm guilty," said Shurtleff. "I'm doing it for the food."
Utah's top law enforcement officer is hosting the overnight campout on the eve of the annual Scouting for Food Drive. On Saturday morning more than 50,000 scouts will be going door-to-door to collect food for the Utah Food Bank. The goal: collect ten items from each household--a total of one million food items.
"The Scouting for Food Drive has the single biggest impact on hunger in Utah for the entire year," said Shurtleff. "Most folks want to help. They sometimes just need a reminder to put their bag of food out on their porch."
Scouts, scout officials, and community leaders will join Shurtleff for a barbecue dinner and a camp out on the lawn of the Great Salt Lake Council Office to help get the word out about the Scouting for Food Drive on Saturday. Media representatives are invited to check out the great barbecue, colorful tents, energetic scouts and National Guard trucks that will be used for the food collection.
