Attorney General Sean Reyes Announces 2015 Office of Attorney General Employee and Service Awards

Sharel Reber Announced as 2015 Attorney of the Year; Katina Romero Named 2015 Employee of the Year

SALT LAKE CITY – Dec. 31, 2015 – Attorney General Sean Reyes today announced the 2015 Utah Office of the Attorney General Employee and Service Awards. The awards were announced and given at an office-wide luncheon held at the Utah State Capitol. Sharel Reber, Assistant Attorney General and Director of the Corrections section in the State Agency Counsel division, was named 2015 Attorney of the Year. The Utah Attorney General’s Office employs nearly 250 attorneys.  Accounting Technician in the AG Administration Division, Katina Romero, was honored as 2015 Employee of the Year.

“Each year we honor two people for their excellence in the Utah Attorney’s Office and on behalf of the citizens of Utah. It is always a difficult nomination process as our office employs some of the most outstanding public servants in government as they strive each day to serve with complete integrity,” said Attorney General Sean Reyes. “It is not only a pleasure to serve alongside the many exceptional staff we have in this office – but an honor to recognize these awardees for their hard work and longstanding commitment to the state of Utah.”

Sharel Reber was chosen as the Utah Attorney General’s Office 2015 Attorney of the Year for her exemplary representation of the Dept. of Corrections and the Board of Pardons. In addition to advising and litigating on behalf of her clients, she is continuously involved in leading and mentoring AG attorneys. Sharel is best known for her diligence in representing difficult issues including ensuring that sex offenders are in compliance with sex offender registration requirements. She has also helped shape successful laws that protect the rights of crime victims and inmates.

Katina Romero was chosen as the Utah Attorney General’s Office 2015 Employee of the Year for her ongoing excellence and proven track record as the office’s travel and reimbursement accounting technician. In overseeing all travel arrangements for the office, Katina continuously ensures that travel is planned carefully to meet critical and complicated schedules and that all possible savings are realized. She is an asset to not only the office, but also the taxpayers.

In addition to announcing annual awards, Attorney General Reyes highlighted attorneys and staff for serving the Office of the Attorney General for multiple years, many of whom have been with the office for decades. The following were awarded for 30 years of service: Robert Barclay, Assistant Attorney General; Amy Casterline, Administration Legal Secretary; David Caudill, Paralegal; Debra Merrill, Paralegal; Rexine Pitcher, Paralegal; and Carolee Schofield, Legal Secretary.

Individuals honored for 25 years of service include: Steven Alder, Assistant Attorney General; Tammie Atkin, Victim Witness Coordinator; Susan Barnum, Assistant Attorney General; Marian Decker, Assistant Attorney General; Gale Francis, Assistant Attorney General; Jeffrey Hunt, Assistant Attorney General; Nancy Kemp, Assistant Attorney General; John Mccarrey, Assistant Attorney General; Clark Snelson, Assistant Attorney General; Linda Snow, Paralegal; Christine Vandenberg, Paralegal; Carol Verdoia, Assistant Attorney General; Scheree Wilcox, Paralegal; and Raymond Wixom, Assistant Attorney General.

Many other Utah Attorney General attorneys and staff were thanked for their 20, 15, 10 and five years of service.
