VINE
VINE is an automated service that allows you to track the custody status of inmates in jail or prison via phone or the Internet.
As soon as you register, VINE will notify you of any changes in an offender’s custody status, such as release, transfer, or escape.
DIRECT VICTIM ASSISTANCE
Victim Bill of Rights
Victims and witnesses of crime are entitled to fair and respectful treatment throughout the criminal justice process. The Utah Legislature established these protections with the Victims Bill of Rights (1987) and a Constitutional Amendment (1994).
Key Victim Rights
- Fair Treatment: Victims have the right to be treated with respect and dignity, free from harassment.
- Hearing Participation: Victims can attend and be heard at key hearings and trials.
- Protection and Privacy: Victims and witnesses deserve protection from harm and privacy of personal information.
- Restitution and Reparations: Victims have the right to restitution and may qualify for reparations.
- Employer Intercession: Reasonable accommodations should be made to protect victims’ pay and benefits.
Additional Rights for Child Victims
- Interview Limits: Minimal and age-appropriate.
- Protection: Children are protected from physical and emotional harm during the judicial process.
- Resource Access: Information about community resources must be provided.

Victim Services Internships
Victim Services internships are part-time, unpaid positions with flexible schedules. Interns assist with criminal appellate, human trafficking, capital, and other felony cases involving victims. Responsibilities include informing victims of their rights, providing court notifications, accompanying victims to court, following up on case status, identifying needs, and offering referrals/resources as needed.
