Departments
The Solicitor General oversees the Appellate Department, which handles appeals for the state. This department also defends Utah’s laws and constitution.
The Civil Department provides legal counsel to state agencies and public officials, in addition to representing the state in civil legal matters.
The Criminal Department investigates and prosecutes criminal acts throughout Utah.
The Public Protection Department handles antitrust matters and represents the Utah Department of Commerce and the state of Utah in legal actions related to consumer protection and fraud.

Utah joins FTC in suing Toast over alleged deceptive pricing and hidden fees
Utah has joined the Federal Trade Commission, six other states, and two local governments in suing Toast, Inc., alleging the company misled restaurant owners with deceptive pricing, false customer support claims, and hidden fees.
Utah and other states reach $220 million settlement with GM over driver data
Utah Attorney General Derek Brown, the Utah Department of Commerce’s Division of Consumer Protection, and 35 other attorneys general reached a $220 million settlement with General Motors (GM) over allegations that the automaker sold drivers’ driving behavior and location data without their consent. Utah will receive $6,938,619 from the settlement.
