Departments

The Solicitor General oversees the Appellate Department, which handles appeals for the state. This department also defends Utah’s laws and constitution. 

The Civil Department provides legal counsel to state agencies and public officials, in addition to representing the state in civil legal matters.  

The Criminal Department investigates and prosecutes criminal acts throughout Utah.  

The Public Protection Department handles antitrust matters and represents the Utah Department of Commerce and the state of Utah in legal actions related to consumer protection and fraud.

Administration oversees the operations of the office, including managing the budget, legal support, technology, and software.

Utah OAG Secures Conviction of Former Judge Kevin Christensen for Targeting Minors Online 

The Office of the Utah Attorney General secured the conviction of Christensen, a former Utah judge, following an FBI investigation that uncovered thousands of predatory online chats targeting minors.

Utah defeats challenge to kratom law 

A federal court on May 4 rejected an attempt by a kratom manufacturer and industry group to block Utah’s new kratom regulation law, clearing the way for the law to take effect on May 6.
