Departments

The Solicitor General oversees the Appellate Department, which handles appeals for the state. This department also defends Utah’s laws and constitution. 

The Civil Department provides legal counsel to state agencies and public officials, in addition to representing the state in civil legal matters.  

The Criminal Department investigates and prosecutes criminal acts throughout Utah.  

The Public Protection Department handles antitrust matters and represents the Utah Department of Commerce and the state of Utah in legal actions related to consumer protection and fraud.

Administration oversees the operations of the office, including managing the budget, legal support, technology, and software.

Utah Joins $773M national settlement with Albertsons over role in opioid crisis 

Utah is expected to receive at least $10.7 million from the proposed settlement, adding to the more than $616 million the state is now projected to receive from national opioid settlements combined.
