About the Attorney General's Student Advisory Council

Join the Attorney General’s Student Advisory Council for hands-on experience in civic engagement, public policy, and community service. Students meet together monthly to share their perspectives, learn how to impact their schools and communities, and hear from state leaders and legal professionals. Past councils have offered feedback on initiatives like L.E.T.S. Stay Safe Utah, the SafeUT App, and proposed legislation.

Requirements:

  • Be a Utah resident and a high school junior or senior (or equivalent age).
  • Attend an hour-long meeting at 4:30 p.m. once a month on a Wednesday at the Utah State Capitol (or virtually for students living far from Salt Lake City)
  • Lead a civic engagement project in the community

Applications are now open for the 2026/2027 school year. Questions? Email Alexander Hill at [email protected].

Purpose and mission

The student council will engage high school juniors and seniors in civic education, public policy, and community service by offering a meaningful platform for students to gain experience in public service through the Office of the Attorney General. Program goals

  1. Youth Engagement: Connect students with mentors in the office through seminars and speakers.
  2. Advisory Role: Solicit student perspectives on issues like social media, substance abuse, youth crime, online safety, and public policy.
