Fun fact: Did you know that 1 in 5 Asian Americans are Filipino?
The contributions of the Filipino American community have been many. They date all the way back to 1587, the year Filipino presence in the continental United States was first recorded as they landed in what is now Morro Bay, California.
By the way: that was 33 years before the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock and almost 200 years before the U.S. was founded in 1776.
Filipino Americans have given their unique talents and voices to our country for centuries as artists, laborers, educators, soldiers, and more. Many have chosen to go into public service, such as Sean D. Reyes, Utah’s first Filipino American attorney general.

We are indebted to the immeasurable gifts Filipino Americans have given that have helped shape our culture and communities.
Thank you.
