National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October 16, 2019

This October, we observe National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and reaffirm our commitment to break the cycle and ultimately bring about the end of domestic violence.

Domestic violence affects millions of people from every background, both men and women from every race, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status. It is not just punching and bruises. Domestic violence can be yelling, insulting, humiliation, isolation, and coercion. It can be gaslighting, stealing paychecks, and keeping tabs online.

Since 2000, about 42% of adult homicides in Utah were domestic violence related. Three out of four Americans personally know someone who is or has been a victim of domestic violence.

There is zero tolerance for domestic violence.

If you suspect or know of someone who suffers abuse, please immediately seek help by calling your local law enforcement or reach out to one of the organizations listed below or call the Utah Domestic Violence LINKLineat 1-800-897-5465 or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233

If LINKLine advocates are experiencing an increased call volume, calls will be forwarded to the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

Celebrating International Women’s Day

March 8, 2019

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Utah Attorney General Sean D. Reyes joined Sheroes United to promote the triumph of the human spirit over the tragedies of human trafficking, domestic violence, and abuse.

Attorney General Reyes paid tribute to the influential women in his life and emphasized the importance of education and engagement. He honored the survivors who have become trailblazers in the fight for safety, dignity, and justice. Their voices continue to fuel and inspire the Utah Attorney General’s Office and partners such as Sheroes United in their ongoing work on behalf of the people of the State of Utah.

Join us in celebrating International Women’s Day by honoring the women in your life and their fundamental role in shaping our communities, governments, and businesses.

Take a Stand against Domestic Violence

The Office of the Attorney General is deeply committed to protecting our communities and preventing violence so that all Utahns can live in their homes and without fear.

During National Domestic Violence Awareness Month – we take time to mourn those we’ve lost due to domestic violence, celebrate with those who have survived, and applaud those who now use their stories to help others in similar situations.

Domestic violence is never acceptable. Take a stand and help break the cycle of abuse.
