Alexandra Butler is the section director for consumer protection, within the Office’s Commercial Enforcement Division. Together with the attorneys on her team, she represents the Utah Division of Consumer Protection and the State in consumer protection enforcement actions. She also collaborates with attorneys general and federal enforcers from across the country on multistate consumer protection investigation and enforcement matters. Ms. Butler has presented as a panelist on Construction Trades in Consumer Protection Enforcement at the National Association of Attorneys General Western Regional Consumer Protection Conference. Her practice encompasses a wide range of consumer protection areas, including construction trades, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and telecommunications.
Before joining the Office of the Utah Attorney General, Ms. Butler served as a judicial law clerk for Judge Carolyn B. McHugh of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and Chief Judge Robert J. Shelby of the United States District Court for the District of Utah.
Ms. Butler received her Juris Doctor in 2020 from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a Karsh-Dillard Scholar and received the Robert E. Goldsten Award for Distinction in the Classroom. She served as the Membership and Inclusion Editor of the University of Virginia Law Review, a research assistant for Professor Michael Gilbert’s publication Public Law and Economics, and a Torts teaching assistant. Before attending law school, Ms. Butler conducted retinal neurology research in the Marc Laboratory at the University of Utah Moran Eye Center and presented her findings at regional and national symposia.
