Burke Nazer is the section director for the Higher Education Section, within the Office’s Education Division. Along with the other attorneys on his team, he represents the institutions within the Utah System of Higher Education. Burke’s primary client is Utah State University. His practice encompasses a wide range of legal areas within higher education, including constitutional law, student housing, Title IX, litigation management, and athletics.
Burke previously worked in the State Agency Counsel Division, representing the Utah Department of Corrections and the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole. There, he served as lead counsel for UDC and the Board in all non-monetary litigation, defending against a broad spectrum of claims, including a variety of constitutional claims brought by state inmates.
Prior to joining the Office of the Utah Attorney General, Burke spent over ten years working for state courts in Ohio, Idaho, and Utah. During that time, he advised judges on complex legal issues in a wide variety of cases, including business disputes, torts, election controversies, and constitutional law.
Burke earned his J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2009, where he was a Moritz Ambassador. He also served as a senior editor for I/S: A Journal of Law and Policy for the Information Society. In his spare time, Burke enjoys golfing, reading books on American history, and spending time with his wife and three daughters. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Little Lambs Foundation for Kids.
