Darin Goff serves as the Division Director of the Education Division in the Office of the Utah Attorney General. He earned a B.A. in English, cum laude, from the University of Utah in 1990 before receiving his J.D. from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1993.
During law school, he served as Note and Comment Editor for the Utah Journal of Energy, Natural Resources and Environmental Law and was recognized as a William H. Leary Scholar. Darin has more than three decades of litigation and public service experience spanning both Alaska and Utah. He began his legal career in private civil litigation in Alaska, where he practiced from 1993 to 1999 before joining the Alaska Public Defender Agency. After four years as a public defender, he returned to private practice, handling both civil litigation and criminal defense matters. In 2005, he joined the Alaska Attorney General’s Office, representing the State in child protection matters.
Returning to Utah in 2007, Darin entered private practice, concentrating on white-collar criminal defense and the representation of governmental entities. In 2014, he joined the Office as a litigator in the Civil Rights Section of the Litigation Division. He was appointed Section Director of the Civil Rights Section in 2019, a position he held until 2025, when he became Director of the Education Division.
Throughout his career, Darin has developed extensive expertise in education law and complex constitutional litigation. His practice has included litigation under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 involving First Amendment claims — including free speech, free exercise, and retaliation — as well as Fourth Amendment search and seizure and excessive force claims, Eighth Amendment claims involving denial of medical care and failure to protect inmates, and Fourteenth Amendment substantive due process, state-created danger, and student disciplinary due process claims. He has also litigated matters involving Title IX sexual harassment, Title VI racial discrimination, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Utah Governmental Immunity Act, and the Government Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA).
In addition to his litigation practice, Darin has substantial experience managing legal teams, advising public officials on high-profile matters, and providing strategic counsel in crisis communication and risk management.
