Jim Smith is an Assistant Assistant Attorney General in the Child Protection Division. He graduated from the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2008. He practiced parental defense at Lokken and Associates in Salt Lake City between 2014 and 2016 and joined the Roosevelt office of the Office’s Child Protection Division in 2017, transferring to the Provo location the next year.
Jim is a current member of the Utah Advisory Committee on the Rules of Juvenile Procedure and a past board member of the Parental Defense Alliance of Utah (now Utah Family Defenders Association). Before going to law school Jim graduated from Brigham Young University where he majored in history, he paused his studies for two years to do missionary work in Brazil’s Amazon basin.
His interests outside of work include sailing, Mormon history, maritime history, yard work, and a growing interest in woodworking. Jim and his wife are the proud-but-tired parents of six children.
