John W. Holt is an Assistant Utah Attorney General in the Litigation Division, where he serves as Deputy Director for the Torts Section. John’s practice focuses on defending that State of Utah and its entities in actions filed by plaintiffs seeking damages for personal injury or property damage allegedly caused by negligence or other tortious acts.
Before joining the Office of the Utah Attorney General, John worked at a small private law firm in Salt Lake City, Utah, for twenty-five years, focusing primarily on commercial litigation. During his career, John has received an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbel and has been listed in Utah Business Magazine’s Legal Elite. John served as a member of the Kaysville City Planning Commission from 2009-2014. John received his undergraduate degree from Weber State University. In 1990 John graduated with a law degree from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, where he was a William H. Leary Scholar and the Managing Editor of the Journal of Contemporary Law/Journal of Energy Law & Policy
