Katie Hass serves as Deputy General Counsel and Director of External Relations for the Office of the Utah Attorney General under Attorney General Derek Brown.
In this role, Katie advises on legal and policy matters and leads the Office’s engagement with the Utah Legislature, government agencies, business leaders, and advocacy organizations. She brings experience from both government and the private sector to the Office’s work on behalf of Utahns.
Before joining the Office, Katie served as Director of the Utah Division of Consumer Protection, where she led a team of more than 30 professionals who investigated consumer complaints and enforced Utah’s consumer protection laws. She directed investigations and enforcement actions, advised legislators on consumer protection policy, and worked with federal partners on matters of shared interest. She began her legal career as a litigation associate at Dechert LLP and later served as Associate General Counsel for Government Relations at Melaleuca, Inc., where she led the company’s state and federal policy and legislative work.
Katie earned her J.D., cum laude, from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University and her B.A. in economics and political science from the University of Vermont. She is admitted to the Utah, Idaho, and District of Columbia bars.
