Lance Sorenson is an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Utah and represents the State as part of the Constitutional Defense Division. Lance defends state executive officers in cases involving federal and state constitutional issues and represents the people of the State of Utah in litigation around the country.
Lance wrote a dissertation on the development of federalism in the American West, taking a special interest in tribal sovereignty, public lands, and territorial governance. He has published law review articles in the Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law as well as the American Indian Law Review, and has presented at numerous conferences. Lance serves on the Attorney General Office’s Committee for Tribal Affairs. Lance has also taught courses in law, history and politics at Stanford Law School, BYU, and UNLV.
Lance earned his J.D. from Pepperdine University and holds a Ph.D. in Legal History from the University of Nevada.
