Lauren Cormany is an Assistant Attorney General in the Natural Resources Division. She represents the Public Lands Policy Coordinating Office in all stages of civil litigation involving public lands and endangered/threatened species. Lauren assists her client in advancing state priorities such as protecting Utahns’ access to their public lands for recreation and proactively conserving Utah’s wildlife and plant species to prevent the need for federal listing under the Endangered Species Act.
Lauren is deeply passionate about public service, bringing experience from roles in both state and federal government, as well as positions within higher education. She is regularly included in the Utah Bar’s Pro Bono Honor Roll for her volunteer work in the community.
Lauren received her J.D. and a certificate in Environmental & Natural Resources Law with honors from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law. She made Salt Lake City her home shortly after graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee Knoxville with a B.A. in History & Political Science and a minor in International Agriculture & Natural Resources. In law school, she served as the Executive Environmental Editor of the Utah Law Review, and her peers selected her student article for publication in the journal. Her second and third years of law school, she represented the University of Utah and its Wallace Stegner Center for Land, Resources and the Environment in moot court competitions at both West Virginia University and Pace University. Her team advanced to the quarterfinals of oral arguments in both competitions and won Best Brief for Petitioners and Runner-up Best Brief Overall at Pace University’s National Environmental Moot Court Competition.
Lauren is a Tennessee native, with a strong connection to her family’s rich Appalachian and Southern heritage. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her friends, family, and pets, reading fiction, and cheering on her Tennessee Vols.
