Peggy E. Stone is an Assistant Solicitor General and Section Director of the Litigation Appeals Section. Peggy has significant and broad experience at the Office of the Utah Attorney General. She spent three years in the Child and Family Support Division, and ten years practicing in the civil rights section of the litigation division. In 2007, she started doing exclusively appellate work for the office when she became the director of the section handling appeals arising from the Office’s litigation division, including civil rights, torts, and employment.
Peggy was the Office of the Utah Attorney General’s Attorney of the Quarter in December 2004 and the 4th Quarter of 2022, and was named the Office of the Utah Attorney General’s Attorney of the Year in 2022. She is admitted to practice in the State of Utah, the Federal District Court for the District of Utah, the Federal Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. She is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Appellate Section of the Utah State Bar.
Peggy earned her B.S. in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Utah in 1989, where she was a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, and her J.D. from the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1993, graduating Order of the Coif and serving as Note and Comment Editor of the Utah Law Review. Following law school, she clerked for the Honorable I. Daniel Stewart of the Utah Supreme Court from 1993 to 1994.
