Today, the Utah Attorney General’s Office is proud to recognize Law Day and the role that law plays in our society by protecting our freedoms and bringing justice for all Americans.
This year, the theme is “Your Vote, Your Voice, Our Democracy: The 19th Amendment at 100” as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment which certified women’s right to vote. In addition, this year marks the 150th anniversary of the ratification of the 15th amendment, which secured the right to vote to all citizens, regardless of race or color. This theme underscores the importance of the right to vote as the foundation of our country and affirms the structure it now stands upon. It maintains the checks and balances for our local and federal governments established by the U.S. Constitution.
This Law Day, the Utah Attorney General’s Office reaffirms its commitment to uphold the U.S. Constitution and the freedoms and liberties it provides. We urge you to celebrate and learn more about the 15th and 19th amendments and how their passage continues to shape and build our country.
