SALT LAKE CITY June 24, 2016 – In a statement today, Attorney General Sean Reyes welcomed his Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama to Salt Lake City, and reiterated the Office of the Attorney General’s support for religious tolerance and freedom.
“This week, we welcome His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama to Salt Lake City and also recognize Utah’s Tibetan community and their values of kindness, compassion and harmony with others. Tibetan refugees first arrived in Salt Lake City between 1991 and 1993, immediately finding among Utahns open arms and welcoming sponsors. Today, the Utah Tibetan Association, under the leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, is recognized as a model for other refugees seeking assimilation and self-sufficiency. He spoke to Utah Tibetans with happiness about how they have settled in Utah’s beautiful mountains, a setting similar to their homeland.
“The Utah Office of the Attorney General supports religious tolerance and freedom in Utah, our nation and throughout the world.”
“Be Kind Whenever Possible. It Is Always Possible”

Attorney General Sean Reyes was particularly moved as His Holiness spoke about change:
“This century should be more peaceful, more compassionate, more happy. The change of humanity, the change of this century starts with one individual. Thinking I am only one, I cannot make a change, is wrong. Change starts with yourself and then your family. And then ten, a hundred, and a thousand families. That is how change occurs.”
